Complete issue of newspaper reprinting seven reports written by Col. Isaac Hayne, 26 July-29 July 1781, shortly before his execution by hanging, and delivered to the South Carolina delegates at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pa. Essays discuss Hayne's predicament as a soldier in the captured city of Charleston, S.C.; Hayne swore allegiance to the Crown after fall of Charleston with assurance that military service would not be required of him; when later ordered to join British Army, Hayne considered this a release from his oath of allegiance; he joined S.C. Militia, and captured Gen. Andrew Williamson. Also includes account of Battle of Eutaw Springs (Orangeburg County, S.C.), 8 Sept. 1781, where revolutionary forces were led by Nathanael Greene; includes lists officers killed or wounded in the battle.
